Prescott Cheer is directed and managed by Sheri Nelson. As a competitive level 8 gymnast in her youth, Sheri was exposed to private gymnastics instruction and advanced tumbling techniques. Switching to the sport of cheerleading in her teens, Sheri used these skills to lead her high school team to obtain three Arizona State 5A Championships, two U.S.A. National Cheerleading Championships for the Large Varsity show cheer, and one U.S.A Cheerleading Championship for the all-girl stunting competition. Appearing on ESPN2 multiple times, Sheri was asked to apply to be an instructor for the United Spirit Association.
Taking a break from cheerleading, Sheri obtained degrees in chemistry and secondary education, and coached gymnastics in her spare time. After her marriage to husband Taylor in 2002, Sheri began to more heavily involve herself in the gymnastics and cheer community of North Dakota, where Taylor was stationed through the United States Air Force. It was at this time, Sheri spent much of her time coaching youth ages 2-15, in cheerleading, gymnastics, and dance, judged local cheerleading competitions and high school tryouts, and began organizing local clinics and private lessons for girls interested in cheerleading.
Now a full-time mother to 3 young children, Sheri has retired from coaching to concentrate on her family but is eager to share her knowledge with the youth of Prescott each summer through Prescott Youth Cheer summer day-camps.
